    Today is known as Black Friday (the busiest shopping day of the year) and as Buy Nothing Day (a day when you are supposed to restrain yourself from consuming).
    I like the idea behind "Buy Nothing Day".

Fashion Fridays! Vintage Inspired Hats from Pinkham Millinery

    Last night my husband and I were trying to decide what to eat for dinner when he suggested Chinese food. That sounded good, so off we went to get some take out. I was disappointed when I looked into the takeout bag and discovered that they had only given us one fortune cookie instead of two (I love reading my fortune). I thought to myself well maybe there are two fortunes in that one cookie (I have received 5 fortunes in one cookie from this place before).
    After we ate our food we split the cookie open and indeed there were two fortunes inside, I put the fortunes on my hand mixed them around and told my husband to pick one, he choose his and read it aloud. Then I picked mine up and it couldn't have been more appropriate for the day, "Try a new hat for a change in looks. Be creative." I was indeed wearing a hat yesterday though it was not new. Well, it's a newish brown wool felt cloche I bought about a year ago on our honeymoon in Belgium. I had also been thinking of hat ideas for the IPRC "Elements of Style: Text Ball". So, needless to say this fortune was indeed apt!
    Today, I was going to do my Fashion Fridays blog entry about purses- but, after last night's fortune I thought it would be a good idea to write about hats.

    In today's post I am featuring hats by the very talented local Portland milliner Dayna Pinkham
    Back when I had a bricks and mortar store location Dayna would occasionally stop in and look around.  As you can see by the pictures below hats don't get much more vintage inspired than these...

Fashion Fridays! Schultz Bakelite Bangle Bracelets

Bakelite is a fire resistant plastic that can be colored and carved into different shapes and forms.
Bakelite was created by Leo Baekeland in 1909.
It was originally used in industry. But, then it was discovered that it was the perfect thing for making inexpensive jewelry out of.
Nowadays vintage Bakelite is highly collectible and valuable.

Today's Fashion Fridays is about Bakelite jewelry that is manufactured by Ron and Ester Shultz.

Fashion Fridays! Jewelry by Sagen- Made Out of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern Pottery

Today's Fashion Fridays is about jewelry from Sagen.
Sagen was started in the Summer of 2006 by Elin Sigren and Malte Rohlin on the island of Gotland in the middle of the Baltic Sea.
When they first started out they only made rings.
Nowadays Elin does most of the designing, constructing fun and unique jewelry such as barrettes, brooches, cufflinks, earrings, necklaces, rings and tie holders out of silver and classic Scandinavian mid-century modern pottery.

Bellissimo!
The Blumarine and Valentino ads posted above are so beautiful!
I came across them when I was pouring over February's Italian Vogue.
Both ads feature wonderful Art Deco inspired bow jewelry.

    About a month ago I found an article on Style.com about a club in London called Boombox.
    The images featured in the article are candy colored visual delights.
    A photographer named Alistair Allen works the club circuit and snaps pictures of all the lavishly festooned night life- check out his website DirtyDirtyDancing
    It features pictures of London's pretty young things all dressed up and painting the town red.
    Take for instance the lovely lady pictured above.
    She looks simply smashing with her made up face, veiled hat, beaded chain necklace and golden frock.
    I have been meaning to pull my hats out of their boxes and start sporting them around town, after reading this article it has given me a kick in the skirt to do so.

This dress cracks me up!
The dress has How Big Is The Ring? emblazoned on the front with a bold panel that says Fiancee at the bottom.
Having gotten engaged and subsequently married last year I can relate to this dress. Upon the announcement of our engagement all the ladies I knew wanted to know had we set the date yet and what does your ring look like?
Last year when I was planning for my impending nuptials I attended a Bridal Show with my mom. I didn't want to go- but, she convinced me. I was repulsed by the commercial wedding factory atmosphere of the event and then the piece de resistance was the Bridal Fashion Show. The segment that will unfortunately always be ingrained in my mind was when a group of young guys came out on stage dressed like cowboys took off their shirts and gyrated to some country song called Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy). At which point all the ladies young and old got out of their chairs and started hooting and hollering...
Anyways, back to the dress...
This dress is ingenious with it's utilization of lace, gold and graphic image of a giddy girl pointing at her engagement ring.
It's got a definite Andy Warhol Pop Art look to it.
