Antique & Vintage Dance Cards

Dance cards are a reminder of much more romantic and intriguing times.
I think that it would have been so much fun to have boys write down their names for a dance!
It would have been exhilarating to see if the boy(s) you liked asked you to dance.
But, there was also a definite chance at heartbreak if no one wanted to dance with you.
I am lucky enough to own some beautiful old dance cards.

    My husband's grandmother turned 100 last year!
    She is the sweetest lady and is still very smart and funny!
    My husband told me a story that his grandmother had told him once, and then when I met her later we asked for her to recount the story to us...
    After the Sunday sermon, the pastor at his grandmother and grandfather's church, accidentally took home his grandfather's hat, instead of his own. The pastor discovered that he had taken the wrong hat when he looked inside of the hat and saw a label like the one above stating "You Dam Fool, This Ain't Your Hat It's Mine" with his grandfathers name on it!!!
    I love that story and so I was really excited to come across the old label pictured above at the Portland Antique Expo!

Travel Italia by Lorenzo Ottaviani

    Travel Italia, The Golden Age of Italian Travel Posters by Lorenzo Ottaviani was just recently published.   
    This book features over 150 beautiful and brightly colored Italian travel posters that were designed between the 1920's and the 1960's. These posters are from Alessandro Bellenda's private collection.
    In the book Lorenzo Ottaviani gives us some background on when multi-colored lithographic posters came about and of how the Italian National Tourism Agency and the Italian State Railways commissioned artists to create posters to promote tourism in Italy.
    I found that two very useful features of this book were: the small maps of Italy, that were located next to each of the larger poster images, showing the area which the poster represents and the chapter of artist biographies that tells of the poster artist's histories.
    This book is a must have for anyone interested in poster collecting, vintage graphics and travel.
    A perfect gift for this upcoming holiday season!
