*The Apron Book & Apronisms Book Giveaways*
I have two copies each of EllynAnne Geisel's The Apron Book: Making, Wearing, and Sharing a Bit of Cloth and Comfort and Apronisms: Pocket Wisdon for Every Day to give away!!!
Fun books call for a fun giveaway!
You can enter to win one of these books by leaving a comment about your own memories of aprons... why you love them, collect them, sew them, cherish them.
I met EllynAnne Geisel up at The Farm Chicks show and she seems like a great person with a huge passion for aprons and for life in general!
She has a fun, funny and informative style of writing that will make you laugh but, at the same time have you stopping to contemplate aprons of your past, whether they were aprons of your own or your grandmother's aprons.
The Apron Book features stories of EllynAnne's own apron memories as well as other people's apron memories, instructions for making aprons, lots of photos of aprons, and even a pattern included at the back of the book to create your very own Basic Bib Apron!
Apronisms is a pocket sized book that is chock full of EllynAnne's "Pocket Wisdom for Every Day". I read through the book at breakfast and it was a great way to start the day!
***Leave me your apron comments and four winners will be announced on Friday July 11th***

I remember my grandmothers and great aunt always wearing aprons. Of course they were all fabulous cooks and seeing aprons brings back all kinds of memories - buttered carrots and peas and rice soup. My mother would also wear aprons back in the 60's, but not so much anymore. I will occasionally wear them when I am canning.

I have just started collecting aprons---don't even have 10 yet! I wish I could say making one in home ec years ago was an enjoyable experience~~~ but it wasn't. Kinda put me off sewing altogether!

Oh wow! What a great give-away!
My vintage apron collection started when I found a really fabulous 1950s Christmas half-apron on eBay back in 2002. It has red and white stripes, and a green pocket with a bell on it that says, "Ring for a drink!" From there, I was hooked.
I've just started sewing aprons a little over a year ago. Sewing aprons actually ended up being the jumping point that got me into sewing in a major way.
Plus, I've always said aprons with personality totally make chores less boring! It's true for me, anyway :)

Hello............ I love aprons and collect as many as I can get my hands on. It is almost like a hidden treasure and I can usually pick them up for nothing. I am new to the world of vintage and need to try some stain removing methods on some of mine. Thanks for the info.........Debbie L

My apron memory is from my childhood summers. My grandparents had a cottage on a lake in Northern Vermont. Of course that is where we spent most of our summers. There were 5 of us kids and usually other friends or cousins staying there at any time. We would all go down and swim in the cold lake for hours in the afternoon. When we got too tired and hungry we would all go running up to the cottage and there would be my grandmother, in her flowered apron, pulling chocolate chip cookies out of the oven. She always had the timing down perfectly. I can remember hugging her, the smell of fresh baked cookies wafting off the apron. Just seeing an apron makes me salivate and it makes me miss her.

I just started collecting aprons about 6 months ago when I got married. I didn't really like to cook or bake until I got married and now I'm all about it! And now I'm in LOVE with aprons! Especially retro ones!

I remember that my mother wore aprons (this is in the 70s) that hooked around the neck, whereas my Gramma, Queen of Donut-making, wore the kind that tied around the waist. Mom's were more canvas material, Gramma's much lighter....and prettier.

Happy Saturday! I have seen pictures of my paternal grandmother and in almost every one, she is wearing an apron. My dad tells me that she would pick vegetables from the garden and put them in her apron. Also, if baby chicks were out and it began to reain, she would scoop them up into her apron to get them back in the chicken house. My mom wore an apron on Sundays for our Sunday dinner. My Aunt Annie always wore an apron when we visited her. My mother-in-law loves apron and has them on quite frequently. I collect vintage aprons because of the styles and fabrics. Thanks, Cindi

My mom didn't wear an apron every day but she would put one on when she did something special like putting up fruit, baking pies or desserts or making holiday cookies. I remember it had a special place in a closet next to a broom and we all loved to go get it and put it away for her.

My mom baked for a farmer's market, and always had a royal blue apron on, coated with white flour. I have never been too into aprons myself, until recently, now that I spend more time in the kitchen as a wife and mother, I find my clothes take a real beating without one!

My grandmother always wore an apron. For years I had a number of her aprons, and now I have one left. I still wear it at times-- and I'm 56! I love aprons, although I rarely wear one.

I love those books! And would really love to win them! I am an apron freak - just finished making a very retro/kitchy apron for a friend - who hopefully will like it - when I'm depressed I make aprons - then I put them on and bake...can't stay sad too long in an apron! xo, Nan

I adore aprons, especially half aprons with a little ruffle. I can't begin to tell you how many aprons I have made. I'm not sure what it is - maybe it is the glamour of the 1950s but when I tie on an apron everything including scrubbing the oven is chic. When I was a child there was a women who ran a store full of beautiful aprons. One day we both helped at a charity event and she gifted me an apron. A black silk and tulle vintage 1950s apron. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and it is still after all these years my favorite apron!

My mom was a cook and always wore an apron. I remember going to my Grandmother's at Thanksgiving and seeing her wear one too. I found your blog because I am making my niece an apron for her bridal shower and needed some creative ideas for a pocket. My luck! I found a great blog with an apron book giveaway. At family get togethers we all wear my vintage aprons- even the teen boys!

I have quite a few aprons, some old some new. All used quite frequently. What I like best about them is their usefulness combined with beauty (especially vintage prints/rick rack/creative trims)My favorite apron was made from a Vintage Reprint Simplicity pattern. Sunflower fabric and big pockets!

I remember on Sundays my adored grandmother donning an apron to prepare Sunday dinner~~in the fall and winter it was Eye of the Round with all the trimmings, but in Spring and Summer it was usually Ham Salad and Elbow Macaroni salad. . .she always wore a certain apron for the occasion at hand. . .and looked so smart and clean having that clean, crispn apron on. . .desptite the pandemonium going on around her!

Oh, my, oh my! Aprons!! How I love 'em!
I design them, shop for them, hunt for them, and love giving them. I love vintage or reproduction ones the best - from the 30s to the 50s works for me. I am especially enamoured with the vintage 1950's diner style aprons (a lot of lovely crisp points and vintage prints) and the 1940's utility apron (loads of teeny tiny florals and tons of ric rac).
My favourite memory is a new one. Making cupcakes with our daughter for her birthday and watching her joy in the whole process....all the time wearing her own teeny tiny apron. Does it get any better than that? ;)
